C-R-E-E-P-Y (with a capital 'C')

There is a strange phenomenon that occurs every Spring that creeps me out. I was hoping this would be the year that it failed to happen, but it isn't. It happened yesterday.

I noticed this phenomena about 3 years ago as I was driving home from work. The street that runs in front of my office, is the street I take to go home. It is a residential side street that leads to a main street. Approximately one block away from my work I noticed some 'stuff' in the street. There was quite a bit of it and it resembled something that made me shudder. It was a beautiful Spring day, one of the first really warm days of the new year, so my windows were down. As I approached this mass of 'stuff' I leaned my head out the window for a closer look. I slowed my car down to a crawl and as I inched closer my fears became reality. That 'stuff' was exactly what I thought it was..........SNAKES! Lots of them. Dead. Flat. Littering the street. I could feel the shivers up and down my spine. See! C-R-E-E-P-Y.

I have a completely irrational fear of snakes. When I see one I become paralyzed, literally. I can't move. My back begins to ache as thousands of goose bumps pop up all over my body. I actually found a couple of snakes in my house one time. Believe me...you do not want to hear that story. Needless to say, I don't live there anymore. I couldn't sleep because I knew the snakes were waiting to crawl into bed with me. Yea, it's not pretty.

What is most disturbing to me is not my fear, but how I am 'drawn' to them. I am so curious about snakes that I will watch anything and everything I can about them. Venom ER. Most Deadliest. Anything on Animal Planet that has snakes. For the past 3 years I have been aware of the creepy crawly 'stuff' in the middle of the street, but I always slow down and look at them. I wonder if it is a product of the 'fall'? You know the whole garden-serpent-tree-Adam-Eve-thing? Whatever it is....I'm creeped out and fascinated at the same time.

So, I am curious.....what's your biggest fear? OK.....to keep you all from having to say "losing my family"....I will rephrase that.....what is your biggest irrational fear? (This is really for my benefit so I don't have to feel like a freak:)

Blessings.

Sharks. (a daily problem seeing as I live hours from the nearest body of saltwater.)

But I will never, ever be able to scuba dive :-) Once I was snorkling and there were little baby sharks and I almost passed out because I STOPPED BREATHING!

And seriously, where do you live that there are SNAKES all over the road????

As you well know, the bible does tell us that He will put emnity between us and the serpent. This is a fear that I overcame years ago when I had to live with one and eventually hold one (for school). Just pick up a little 'ol garder out front - you're sure to overcome this fear.

Snakes and Spiders do me in...

I have this weird sixth sense when a spider is present I just know and it creeps me out.

I've been known to put on rubber gloves close the tops with rubber bands to kill a spider. There are several other steps, but I won't go into them. Spiders scare me...

I was really afraid of spiders and snakes. But this year I actually picked a snake up and messed with it. Of course I was wearing gardening gloves, but I did pick on up. Jeff hates snakes, he hates it if I even talk about it. I am not sure what my fear is, bats, I hate being in the same room with a bat, also mice. I do not mind them if they are in a cage. But if they are running around my house I freak. Tanya

My fear without a doubt are those wonderful creepy things called snakes. I have always been creeped out by them and have no desire to get near them or have someone help me with this fear. I don't like them so I choose not to look at them.I will remember not to drive by your work during the Spring time.

I'm with you on the snakes...hate them with a passion....absolutely will not look at anything on TV with snakes. I always open our back shed cautiously. Snakes in my house would freak me out...I'd move also!

LOL...I love your responses.

Tanya- I also loathe mice. Their little tails KILL me!

Lori- ARE YOU NUTS??? PICK ONE UP? NO! "just pick up a little ol' garder.." THERE IS NO SUCH THING! THEY ALL LOOK LIKE PYTHONS TO ME!

Robin- "rubber gloves close the tops with rubber bands.." cracked me UP!

Carol and Susan- I knew we were 'sisters':)

Girlymama- Sharks...I can understand, but baby sharks? Hmmmmmmmm :) Oh, and I live in Red Oak, Iowa. Explains A LOT doesn't it?

And about snakes...
I was at a friends house who has a pet snake for her boys. My daughter walked into the room and said, "Mama! The snake is out!"
I said, "I'm leaving now! Bye!"
And my friend said, "She means 'out from under his little rock where he hides.'"
Then she laughed at me for the rest of the day. Because she could tell I was TOTALLY serious about leaving her house.

LOL!

I am SOOOO with you. I don't even think I would've said 'bye'. They would've smelled the smoke from the blazing trail that was me bolting out the nearest window/door/wall!
